Back in the early 80s, when I was knee high to most of the population, two unrelated events occurred across my relations. My aunt bought my cousin a small, white, plain desk as part of a plan to redecorate his bedroom. Meanwhile one of my uncles, living down south, continued to collect comics. In particular, 2000 A.D.
Read MoreThere are two types of people in the world and they’re living in your head. They vary depending on the person they’re inside. If you’re trying to stay healthy, then one person will definitely being trying to convince you to keep on the diet, whilst the other one is saying surely you’ve been good for long enough to earn at least one treat. If you’re trying to focus on getting something done then you know one of those people in your head is going to be telling you that there’s no harm in taking just one little night off.
Read MoreAs of last Sunday, all of my work previously published by Kensington Gore is no longer available on Amazon. Or anywhere else, for that matter.
If you’ve previously bought yourself any of those novellas, collections or novels then, first of all, I’d like to say thank you. Secondly, here’s a piece of good news for you: you’re now the proud owner of what we can officially label a first edition.
Read MoreOh, summer. Cruel, hot, possible globally catastrophic summer. Soon you will be gone, never to dark our barometers and shorts drawers again. No longer will people walk into a room and declare ‘oh, isn’t it hot in here’ or ‘oh, isn’t it cold in here’ like some demented, inbred thermometer parrot. No longer will people claim to love the summer but always seem to be the first to reach for the air conditioning, thus exposing themselves as a total fraud.
Read MoreYou might remember, the other week, that I mentioned setting up a sort of required reading list for the new novel. Who am I kidding? Of course you remember. They’re putting up the blue plaque outside my window to commemorate the anniversary of me writing it. I was talking about how I was looking for particular things to read and watch. I was listening to a lot of horror scores. I was basically chasing some sense memory of the novel I’ve got growing in my head. Or I was sense checking that it didn’t already exist.
Read MoreSometimes, the universe speaks to you. Or that’s how I choose to see it. I suppose it’s just coincidence, really. It’s either that or I’m deciding to pick up on the same, repeating cues to assemble my own, personal breadcrumb trail. It’s a way of making sense of the noise. Or using the noise to make sense of yourself.
Read MoreThis is it, people. This is not a drill. The second novel is out. Which is crazy. I’ve managed to write another one. Three decades on this planet, two novels published. That’s not bad when you consider the whole first decade and some of the second was spent primarily being forced to learn things in various classrooms.
“So, where did this new novel come from,” I hear you ask. “And what’s with the pink rabbit?”
I guess it’s time I properly introduced you to Fluff.
Dear 38 year old me,
Hi, how’re you doing? Well, I guess you’re resting right now. If all things go to plan, then you’re due for a pretty big year ahead of you. There’s the new book coming out, Fluff. There’s another book to write. You’ve got a massive new Avengers movie and the first female Doctor Who to look forward to as well. I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you luck and send on your way with a little advice.
